Don't miss
The discussion explains how Emanuel turned the Ari Gold parody from Entourage into a deliberately useful projection of power.
The brief
Matt Belloni examines Ari Emanuel’s explosive memoir, including his feuds with Michael Ovitz and Jeffrey Katzenberg, his relationship with Rahm Emanuel, and the anger shaping the book.
The memoir’s sharper revelations concern agency mergers and media manipulation, including Emanuel’s use of Nikki Finke to destabilize William Morris and reshape Hollywood’s information flow.
Emanuel’s voice, preserved by ghostwriter J.R. Moehringer, reinforces the book’s central tension: a reputation that looks spontaneous but has been deliberately cultivated for power.
The Ari Gold character began as a parody on Entourage, but Emanuel eventually embraced it, turning an intimidating fictional image into a public-relations asset.
The Emmys supplied a second industry readout: Apple TV+ broke through against HBO and Netflix, while Matthew Rhys, Allison Janney, and Stephen Colbert produced contrasting surprises.
Colbert’s win becomes the night’s political signal, interpreted as validation after his cancellation, while his restrained speech contrasted with the celebrations surrounding it.
