The report’s sharpest turn comes when an unconfirmed second death at a Siberian anti-plague facility transforms a health mystery into a transparency dispute.
The brief
An unconfirmed report of a second death after possible plague exposure at Russia’s Anti-Plague Institute raises questions about what happened inside a Siberian research facility.
U.S. officials call for greater transparency as experts weigh the distinction between pneumonic plague and COVID transmission, alongside allegations of the facility’s biological-weapons history.
The update then turns to Nidal Hasan, whose approved firing-squad execution follows his conviction for killing 13 people and injuring more than 30 at Fort Hood.
France’s student demonstrations, initially focused on school conditions, staffing, facilities, rights and equality, have escalated into arson, police clashes, damage and thousands of arrests.
A federal defamation lawsuit involving Terrell Owens adds another accountability story, as three men describe harassment and death threats after being cleared in Nolan Wells’s death.
