The brief
Zach Lowe and Mo Dakhil open with Media Day’s biggest questions: Stephen Curry’s extension, Denver’s place in the West, and whether the Nuggets can turn Nikola Jokic’s commitment into contention.
The NBA discussion moves from Kawhi Leonard’s return to Toronto and the Clippers’ resentment to crowded young backcourts, risky contract choices, overlooked players, and the limited slots available to first-time All-Stars.
The hosts also revisit Jalen Brunson’s SNL appearance and the Knicks’ championship outlook, weighing whether roster continuity can sustain the momentum that has raised expectations in New York.
Keith O’Brien joins to discuss Heartland, his account of Larry Bird’s Indiana State years, including Bird’s fights, difficult personality, privacy, and near-disappearance from basketball.
The interview’s central tension is Bird’s refusal to perform celebrity: a national media frenzy surrounded Indiana State, while Bird increasingly controlled access and withdrew from reporters.
