Factor V Leiden
TopicHeard in 1 episode across 1 show since Aug 2026
Factor V Leiden is a mutated variant of human factor V, a protein essential for blood clotting, which leads to an increased tendency to form abnormal blood clots. This genetic mutation prevents anticoagulant protein C from normally inhibiting factor V, resulting in a hypercoagulable state. It is the most common hereditary hypercoagulability disorder among individuals of European descent.

What experts have said about Factor V Leiden

Travis says full Factor V inheritance increases clotting risk more than half inheritance.
“I have the full one. So I'm really prone to clotting where my kids like my one daughter, Alabama, she has half of it, so it's not as concerning, but she has to be cautious.”
