Disneyland
Place#10 trending in Culture & Entertainment this week · most on This American Life
Disneyland is a theme park at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, United States. It was the first theme park opened by the Walt Disney Company and the only one designed and constructed under Walt Disney’s direct supervision; it opened on July 17, 1955. In common usage, “Disneyland” may also refer more broadly to the surrounding Disneyland Resort, but the place itself is the original Disneyland Park.

Disneyland appears in dating criteria, seasonal fun, and childhood memories
This American Life discusses Disneyland as a dating dealbreaker, describing someone who makes regular pilgrimages there as an undesirable match.[1]
House Guest features Kerry Washington and Scott Evans discussing Disneyland’s seasonal Haunted Mansion transformation into Nightmare Before Christmas, which they both enjoy.[2]
The Shawn Ryan Show includes Wynonna Judd recalling Disneyland as one of her childhood memories while describing a childhood with little playfulness.[3]
The shows do not present one shared argument: Disneyland is framed as a dating criterion on one show, seasonal entertainment on another, and a personal memory on the third.[1][2][3]

“You don't want to date anyone who makes regular pilgrimage to Disneyland. Or feels affiliation with any of their characters or Harry Potter. This turns out to be particularly damning criteria in Los Angeles.”

“I have memories of Disneyland, but otherwise not so much. They asked me in rehab to do a letter about sort of to myself about, you know, what I would have changed. And I would have definitely changed the fact that I knew at 6, um, I think I”
