Policy Bets Need Cheaper Money The policy trade needs borrowing-cost relief that AI’s financing demands could frustrate. Bloomberg reported that expectations for Trump’s tariffs, tax changes, deregulation and lower borrowing costs are reshaping markets. The 10-year Treasury yield fell to 5.09% as of October 16; the iShares 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF (IEF) was up 1% over the week through Monday, consistent with easing yields. In Monday’s podcasts, Jason Draho argued that declining rates and oil over the next year could give equities firmer support, while Steve Eisman expected rates to stay higher for longer because AI borrowing competes with Treasuries for capital. Their disagreement is whether recent relief can become a durable reduction in financing costs—not simply whether policymakers want one.
